Guelph Storm (OHL): It was a good week for the Storm, now sitting five games ahead of the seventh-place team in the Western Conference. There were three games and three wins with a 3-2 sting against Sarnia, they outraced the Greyhounds 1-0 in the Soo, and then did an 8-5 drubbing of the Spirit in Saginaw. Next, the Storm are back in the Sleeman Centre tonight to receive the Rangers, and then the IceDogs are in town on Friday.
Guelph Gryphons (OUA): Reading Week is over, and the school year is winding down. U of G athletes are on the road hitting all the championships, including a stop at the OUA Track and Field Championships at the Toronto Track and Field Centre last weekend where the team secured 12 golds, seven silvers, and seven bronze. Rebecca Parker was a standout coming in first in the women’s pentathlon and long jump and breaking her own OUA record from last year. Parker was named one of the Gryph’s Locker Athletes of the Week (and was also named the OUA Athlete of the Week on Tuesday) along with Olivier Ciarlo from the men’s hockey team. Ciarlo was in goal on Sunday in the pivotal semifinals against the Laurier Golden Hawks and shut out birds all game to stop 30 shots on net, which allowed the Gryphons to take the game, and advance to the quarterfinals, by a score of 4-0.
High School Athletics (OFSSA): On Friday it was Ross shining in Guelph high school sports as the Royals advanced past Orangeville 83-45 in the junior boys basketball semifinal, and then beat Bishop Mac 3-0 in junior girls volleyball. In semifinal basketball on Thursday, the Ross seniors beat Centennial 64-56, while St. James fell to Centre Wellington, but just barely 70-69, and while most of the hockey games were postponed due to the weather the Centre Wellington/Bishop Mac semifinal game went forward, but it didn’t go in favour of the Celtics who lost 15-3.
Guelph Royals (IBL): The Royals are now shaping up the infield for the 2026 season, with the addition of new player in the form of Miguel Hiraldo, who has batted a lifetime .260 with 40 home runs, 13 triples, and 115 stolen bases across his minor league career. In terms of old faces, Garrett Takamatsu will be returning to the Royals for his third season this summer.
