This week on Open Sources Guelph, Scotty Hertz and I will have back-to-back interviews. In the first half we will have a conversation with Guelph MP Dominique O’Rourke about federal support for Guelph Transit, supporting a tough economy and Canada’s support for human rights. In the second, we will chat with Matt Whitfield and Gaetan Heroux, organizers of the People’s Assembly for Housing Justice, who tell us why fighting Toronto’s housing crisis may not involve getting involved in the local election.

Guelph Royals (IBL): Last Tuesday’s game in Hamilton saw the Royals star in what’s become a familiar story as they lost to the Cardinals 5-6, but then something changed… The Royals won three in a row starting with a 14-7 drubbing of the Maple Leafs in Toronto, a 10-2 massacre of the Majors at home, and then a 7-2 blow out of the Baycats in Barrie. Barrie was in town last night to complete the two-game set. In terms of new editions to the team, in the last week the Royals have re-signed right-handed pitcher Nelson Mercado, who returns to the team after a brief stint in the Frontier League, and they’ve signed up utility player Victor Mascai from Brazil and starting pitcher Liam Watt.
Guelph Storm (OHL): The date of the home opener for the Memorial Cup season has been set: The Erie Otters are coming to town on Friday September 18. Tickets are now on sale. Meanwhile, the team picked a well-rounded roster fo three players - a forward, a defenseman and a goalie - during the 2026 OHL U18 Draft.
Guelph Silvercreeks (OBA): The Red Sox were just a little bit better in last Wednesday’s game at Hastings, beating the Silvercreeks by a score of 5-7. Things were looking up though after a trip down the 124 on Sunday when the ‘Creeks outpaced the Cubs with an 8-5 win. The Waterloo Tigers come to town tonight.
Guelph Regals (Junior B Lacrosse): A trip to Owen Sound worked out well for the Regals who dominated the first and second periods so hard that the North Stars could only put two points on the board in the third. Guelph took that game 6-2 in the final. Coming back to Victoria Road Rec Centre, the Regals celebrated that away victory by absolutely decimating the Wallaceburg Red Devils 16-4 on Sunday. Despite the back-to-back wins, the Regals are tied for second with the Orangeville Northmen, even after the first place Six Nations Rebels took their first loss of the season.
