Guelph Storm (OHL): It’s been a tough week for the Storm losing on the road against the London Knights and the Owen Sound Attack, and then losing at home on Sunday against the Kitchener Rangers. At this point, the Storm remain in sixth place, two wins ahead of the seventh place Attack although they are technically tied with 59 points each. The Knights will be at Sleeman Centre tonight while the Attack come to town on Friday, and then the Storm will wrap up the regular season in Erie on Saturday night.
Guelph Gryphons (OUA): Well, that’s title number eight! The Gryphon women’s hockey team faced off against the U of Ottawa Gee-Gees. The game was sealed by team captain Katherine Heard, now 2025-26 OUA West MVP, who scored the game-winning goal midway through the third period, breaking a one-all tie and leading to a 2-1 victory. Heard not only got to raise the McCaw Cup, but she was also named the Gryphon Athlete of the Week, which is the second time this year she’s received that distinction. Next, it’s the U SPORTS Championships where the Gryphons are ranked third and will first face the Waterloo Warriors in the semi-finals. The men’s hockey team is also racking up honours with Nolan Dann being named OUA West MVP and Nathan Allensen being named OUA Defenceman of the Year. Both Dann and Allensen were also being named to the All-Stars on the first team.
Guelph Royals (IBL): Only one new signing this week, and it’s technically a re-signing. Catcher Matthew Ward, who spent his rookie season with the Royals last year, will return to Guelph for his sophomore year.
